这段话并非两个人初次见面。Victoria怀有身孕，在火车上因为恶心，吐了Paul一身。两个人还错拿了对方的车票，导致Paul无法直接坐火车到目的地。在长途汽车上两个人再次相遇，Paul又因为教训了两个调戏Victoria的人而被司机连同两个坏人一起赶下了车。
Victoria出生于传统的墨西哥望族之家，拥有一个名叫“云中仙境”的葡萄园。父亲非常严厉，因而未婚先孕，并且被抛弃的结果是无法被接受的。因此，Victoria下车之后坐在行李箱上不肯回家。Paul猜测她是在等人，Victoria回答，不是，是在等个“奇迹”吧。希望自己不会被父亲给宰掉的奇迹。
面对Victoria的纠结，Paul说这个none of my business。None of one’s business, 不关某人的事儿。但是，你愿意的话可以和我谈谈。Victoria无法解释，于是拿出了分手信。信的内容为：'I was not meant for the conventions of this world, not meant to be tied down. I'm a free spirit." Be meant for有“为……而存在”的意思。比如这个例子：It’s Dragon Year. I am also a dragon, so this song and I just seemed to be meant for each other. 这是龙年，我又属龙。这首歌和我注定是有缘的。Convention, 习俗，常规，tie down, 牵制，限制。信的内容就是，这个世界的习俗不是为我设置的，我也不会被它牵绊，限制。我是一个自由的灵魂。这就是这个自由灵魂break up with Victoria的原因了。Break up with sb. 和某人分手。
这样的结局对Victoria的父亲来说无法接受，特别是他又是一个old fashioned的人。Old-fashioned，旧式的；老式的。这样的事儿不管新式还是老式的父亲都不好接受。不过，像Victoria的爸爸对家族荣耀看的异常重的人接受这样的事实一定是更困难。所以，Victoria总是不停的说，He’ll kill me. 并且He means what he says 见“补充”. 他说的和他想的是一样的。
在冒充女婿的时间里，Aragon先生着实让Paul尴尬，难受了几回。但就在家人慢慢接受了Paul，Paul和Victoria之间也互生好感之后，两人却不得不面对Paul有妻子的事实。于是Victoria主动澄清了事实真相，这让她的父亲陷入深深的痛苦之中。而返回家的Paul却发现妻子和其他人在一起。恢复单身的Paul迫不及待赶往Victoria的家，正巧碰上她的父亲独自喝闷酒。激动的Aragon先生将油灯扔进了葡萄园，导致整个葡萄园被烧毁。就在所有人都绝望的时候，Paul想起了Aragon家族带来的葡萄根，这个葡萄根也象征着整个家族的生命。电影在Aragon先生将切下的一小段葡萄根放在Paul手中，说“This is your root., the root of your family这就是你生命的根，你家的根”中圆满落幕。一家人相互的爱和支持让他们充满了重建家园的勇气。
