本剧主要讲述住在纽约长岛的西佛一家的日常生活故事，是中国大陆较早引进的国外情景喜剧，在中国从1990年一直播出至1994年。1990年代初期一经播出就引发了收视高潮，片中迈克开朗调皮的形象为广大观众所喜爱。而剧中西佛医生对子女采取启发式教育的方式，也让观众得到启示。
Jason: Never mind. I’d really rather not talk about it.

Maggie: Oh, well. I'm sure it’ll blow over by tomorrow, or the next day.

Boner: Hello, everybody. This is News Line, New York.

Eddie: We’re here with Mike and Jason Seaver, two really cool guys?

Boner: That girl asked me to go to the movies on Saturday, so you know what I did?

Eddie: What?

Boner: I asked my Dad.

Mike: Hey, Boner. You're a real funny guy.
迈克：嘿，哥们，这没什么可乐的。
Eddie: Hey, Mike. Listen, maybe you and your Dad could double with me and my Dad some night. Mike, you can tell us.
埃迪：嘿，迈克兄长，你和你爸，我和我爸，来次双档怎么样？迈克，对我们说说。
Boner: Did you get lucky or was that goodnight kiss all you got?
伯纳：约会有进展吗？还是只是说了句晚安？哈哈..
Carol: You guys are a lot funnier since your labotomeys.
卡罗尔：嗨，你们两个就算把脑叶切除了，也不见得聪明。
Eddie: Wow, what a family! A guy dates his dad and gets his little sister to stick up for him. This could make the news too.
埃迪：呜...瞧这一家子，儿子跟老子约会，现在妹妹又追着哥哥，这到是件新鲜事。
