经典对白之二：10-17-2  龙凤胎

故事梗概

本集中，Erica 临产，Monica 显得比 Erica 还要紧张 、 激动。lonica 和 handler 一同在产房陪伴 Erica 产下一胎男婴。可是出人意料的是，接着还有一个小生命等待着诞生。原来，Erica 怀的是一对龙风胎。Monica 和 Chandlen 刚开始有些惊慌(Panic)，因为事先没有任何心理准备。但最终他们决定愉快地接受这个惊喜,欢欣地迎接这一对可爱的龙风胎。

Doctor: Well, you don't have that much time to relax. The other one will be along in a minute.

(Chandler stares at the doctor, completely shocked. Monica just freezes and turns around slowly.)

Monica: I... I'm sorry, who should be along in a what now?

Doctor: The next baby should be along in a minute.

Monica: We only ordered one!

Doctor: You know it's twins, right?

order 这里是指“订购，订单；预定；点菜”。又如：Hamburgers are ordered through a window in the restaurant．(通过餐馆的窗口可以订购汉堡包。) Can I have the menu? I wonld like to order now．(把菜单给我好吗? 我想现在点菜。) Owing to so much luggage，you’d better order a taxi (行李太多，你最好还是去预定一辆出租汽车。)

同形异义词 (homonym)，是指发音和拼写都相同，但意义不同的词。同形异义词在文学作品中常用作双关语 (pun) 的基础，而且，是制造幽默的好素材。例如：A professor said：“Order，please．Let's begin our class Order!”Then some naughty students responded：“Beer，please．”(这里，教授的意思是：“安静，别说话了。我们开始上课。”但一些调皮的学生却“巧妙，，地运用了双关语，故意把 order 的意思扭曲为：“订购，点菜”。既然教授让点了，那就不客气了，来杯啤酒吧!)

此外，如果你看到自动售货机或厕所上贴着“out of order．”的话，就不要再用了。因为，“out of order．”的意思是“坏了，失灵了，不能用了”。相反，in good order 则意为“有条不紊，整齐，情况正常”。例如：His room is very tidy．Everything is in good order．(他的房间很干净整齐。每一样东西都整理得有条有理。)

我们常把 order 用到表目的的短语中：in order that (为了，目的在于……)，in order to (为了……起见，以便) 例如：In order to catch the train，she hurried through her lunch．(为了赶火车，她匆匆吃完了午餐。)
