Now comes the pasting on of the label. This is applied in the same manner as the tin foil, except that to make it secure, instead of twisting, a small strip of vegetable glue is applied along one side. Assembled and wrapped, the packages are dropped on to a moving belt which delivers them to packers.

At this point on our trip through the factory, we asked a question: “Why not have machines pack the rolls in cartons?”

“Machines have been perfected for such a task,” was the reply, “but as yet no machine has been made which will make sure that each package is laid in the carton so that the trade-mark and flavor name on the label are uniform in appearance and can be seen when the carton is opened. That is a problem yet to be solved by some invention. It means a lot to have a perfect and uniform display of the cartons and their contents on the store counters.”
