第九十九课 关于审判杀人凶手的演讲
Against the prisoner at the bar, as an individual, I can not have the slightest prejudice.
对于受到公开审判的囚犯，作为一个个体，我不能怀有哪怕最微不足道的偏见。
I would not do him the smallest injury or injustice.
我不会给他哪怕最小程度的伤害或不公正。
But I do not affect to be indifferent to the discovery and the punishment of this deep guilt.
但是，我不会假装对这一严重犯罪的侦破和惩罚无动于衷。
I cheerfully share in the opprobrium, how much soever it may be,
不论有多大，我都欣然与大家共同分担这一耻辱，
which is cast on those who feel and manifest an anxious concern that all who had a part in planning,

or a hand in executing this deed of midnight assassination,

may be brought to answer for their enormous crime at the bar of public justice. This is a most extraordinary case.

In some respects it has hardly a precedent anywhere; certainly none in our New England history.
