第132课 孤独的割麦女
Behold her, single in the field,
看！她独自一人站在田里，
Yon solitary Highland lass!
那个苏格兰高原的小姑娘！
Reaping and singing by herself;
孤独地收割，孤独地歌唱；
Stop here, or gently pass!
请你站住，或悄悄走过去！
Alone she cuts and binds the grain,
她独自割麦，又把它捆好，
And sings a melancholy strain;
唱着无限悲凉的歌谣；
Oh listen! for the vale profound is overflowing with the sound.
啊，听啊！幽深的溪谷流淌着她的歌声。
No nightingale did ever chant more welcome notes to weary bands
还从来没有夜莺唱出如此悠扬的曲调，
Of travelers in some shady haunt, among Arabian sands:
在阿拉伯沙漠中间把疲惫的旅客抚慰，
A voice so thrilling ne'er was heard in springtime from the cuckoo bird,
春天布谷鸟也从没有唱出如此悠扬的歌声，
Breaking the silence of the seas among the farthest Hebrides.
在遥远的赫布里底群岛打破过大海的宁静。
Will no one tell me what she sings?
谁能告诉我，她唱的是什么？
Perhaps the plaintive numbers flow
哀怨的旋律在不断流涌，
For old, unhappy, far-off things,
是诉说古老的不幸之事？
And battles long ago:
还是和很久很久以前的战争？
Or is it some more humble lay,
或许她歌唱的尽是谦卑，
Familiar matter of to-day?
只是倾诉今日的平凡事？
Some natural sorrow, loss, or pain,
只是自然的悲伤或痛苦，
That has been, and may be again?
昨天已经受，明天还再来？
Whate'er the theme, the maiden sang
那个姑娘唱的是什么，
As if her song could have no ending;
她的歌仿佛没有尽头；
I saw her singing at her work,
只见她边干活边歌唱，
And o'er the sickle bending;
弯着腰，把镰刀挥舞，
I listened motionless and still;
我默不作声听了良久；
And, as I mounted up the hill,
当我爬到山上的时候，
The music in my heart I bore,
旋律仍旧在心里激荡，
Long after it was heard no more.
虽然歌声早已听不到。
