Residents of Acapulco spent the day cleaning up following a magnitude 7.0 quake Tuesday night that left one person dead and shook much of southern Mexico. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake was centered about ten miles northeast of Acapulco.
The World Health Organization is calling on wealthy countries with large supplies of coronavirus vaccines to refrain from offering booster shots until the end of the year. The health organization says while 70 percent of high income countries have vaccinated 40 percent of their populations or more, not a single low-income country has met that threshold.
President Joe Biden touted his $3.5 trillion dollar "Build Back Better" infrastructure program during a White House event to commemorate Labor Day. During the event, Biden paused for a "moment of silence" to honor two union leaders, John Sweeney and Richard Trumpka, who both passed away in 2021.
A crowd in Richmond, Virginia erupted in cheers as work crews lifted an enormous statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E.Lee off its pedestal, where it has stood for more than a century. The statue, one of America's largest monuments to the Confederacy, came down after years of resistance and a long court battle.
