The police department in the US city of Memphis has disbanded SCORPION, a special crime unit involved in the fatal beating of a black man earlier this month.

The decision came a day after the release of video footage showing five black officers brutally beating Tyre Nichols, who died 3 days later.

The SCORPIONs is a unit of about 30 police officers divided into three teams that target violent offenders in high crime areas, and some of their members were involved in the beating of Tyre Nichols.
