Microsoft says two conservative groups, The Hudson Institute and The International Republican Institute, were targeted. The company says a hacking group tied to the Russian government created fake internet domains and spoofed the political groups.
This comes just weeks after a similar discovery by Microsoft led Senator Claire McCaskill, a Democrat who's running for re-election in Missouri, to reveal that Russian hackers tried to infiltrate her Senate computer network.
The hacking attempts are like the ones that came before the 2016 election, but this time, more than helping one political party over another, Microsoft says it was focused on "disrupting democracy".
