A new report says 10 percent of the world's population is overweight. And that includes rich and poor nations with many gains occurring faster in children than adults.
The study published in the New England Journal of Medicine was done by researchers at the University of Washington.
It looked at nearly 200 countries finding that obesity rates at least doubled in 73 of them, suggesting that diabetes among other health issues will keep rising.
The experts think one cause of the bulging problem is the growing availability of inexpensive packaged foods with little nutritional value.
