大家好! 本周《名师答疑》,我们回答来自马里的一个问题。

Dear Kouame, thank you for writing to us with your question.
亲爱的库阿姆,感谢你给我们写信提出问题。
These words and phrases are all common when we use the internet.
这些单词和短语在我们上网时都很常见。
Sometimes you can use them when discussing activities that do not require a computer.
有时,在讨论不需要计算机的活动时也会用到这些词。
Let's look at some of the similarities and differences.
让我们来看看这几个词的异同。
Let us begin with the phrasal verb "log in."
首先看短语动词log in。
This expression means to gain permission to use a computer system.
这个短语的意思是获得使用计算机系统的许可。
Logging in usually requires a username and password.
登录通常需要用户名和密码。
When a user logs in, the computer system keeps a record, or "log," of that user's session on the system.
当用户登录时,计算机系统会保留该用户在系统上的会话控制记录,即log。
We can also use the single word "login" as a noun to describe such a session on a computer.
我们也可以把单个单词login用作名词,来描述在计算机上进行的会话控制。
We can use the phrasal verb "sign in" in the same way as "log in."
短语动词sign in的用法与log in的用法相同。
But unlike "log in," "sign in" is common outside of the computer world.
但与log in不同的是,sign in在计算机语境之外也很常见。
As part of security measures in an office building or school, you may have to provide information about yourself before you enter.
作为办公楼或学校安全措施的一部分,你可能需要在进入之前提供自己的信息。
That could mean writing your name (or "signing" your name) on a paper or showing an identity card.
也就是说在一张纸上写下你的名字(或者“签署”你的名字),或者出示身份证。
This creates a record of visitors to a place.
这样就创建了一个地方的访客记录。
Finally, the verb "register" means to provide information about yourself the first time you use a computer program or attend an event.
最后,动词register的意思是在你第一次使用计算机程序或参加活动时提供关于你自己的信息。
You often need to register before you can sign in or log in to a service.
通常需要先注册,然后才能登录服务。
Another phrase we use for "register" is "sign up."
表示“注册”的另一个短语是sign up。
Here is an example:
请看这个例句:
I recently signed up for a birdwatching class!
我最近报名了一个观鸟班!
Registering for something sometimes involves paying money, while signing in or logging in to something usually does not require a payment.
注册一些东西有时需要付钱,而登录通常不需要付款。
And that's Ask a Teacher. I'm Jill Robbins.
