(它非常安全,以至于你甚至不需要会游泳!)
so…that…句型中的that可以省略,用逗号取代,有时逗号也是可以省略的。相同用法的句型还有such…that…
so+形容词/副词+that从句
“如此……以至于”的意思

例:The runner was so exhausted after the race that he almost fainted.
=The runner was so exhausted after the race(,) he almost fainted.

(Molly穿得很漂亮,因而每个人都盯着她瞧。)
Rob is such a forgetful person that he often forgets to bring his books to school.
=Rob is such a forgetful person(,) he often forgets to bring his books to school.
(Rob是个非常健忘的人,以至于他上学经常忘了带书。)

注意: 有些可用来修饰人的形容词之前加”the”,可当复数名词用,表示全体的概念:
the brave=brave people勇敢的人
the rich=rich people富人
the poor=poor people
the sick=sick people
the dead=dead people
the homeless=homeless people
例:The rich should be more charitable.
=Rich people should be more charitable.
(有钱人应该更有善心才是。)
We should try to be generous to the poor.
=We should try to be generous to poor people
(我们应尽可能对穷人慷慨。)
Many people try to ignore the homeless.
=Many people try to ignore homeless people.
(有许多人试图忽视无家可归的人。)
注意:
“the+形容词=形容词+people”泛指全体的意思,“the+形容词+people”就有限定的意思,不指全体。
例:泛指:
The wise are thought highly of.
=Wise people are thought highly of.
(所有有智慧的人都受到推崇。)
限定:
The wise people (whom) you mentioned just now are all thought highly of.
(你刚才提到的那些有智慧的人都颇受推崇。)
