一.keep：v. 保持，保留，继续，贮藏，经营，遵守，供给，照管，饲养，耽搁，保持食物不变质，健康状况如何，保守（秘密），记录，遵守，保护 n. 生计，保存，城堡主楼，监狱，围墙 n. 监狱，围墙
【词义辨析】
1.keep, retain, reserve, preserve, conserve, withhold,
keep: 最常用词，指长时间牢固地保持或保存。
retain: 指继续保持。
reserve: 正式用词，指为了将来的用途或其他用途而保存、保留。
preserve: 主要指为防止损害、变质等而保存。
conserve: 一般指保存自然资源，保全人的精力、力量等。
withhold: 指扣住不放，暗示有阻碍。
2.raise, keep, support, feed,
raise: 意为“抚养（指人）；饲养（指动物或禽畜）”之意。
He raised the children himself；his wife died years ago.
他的妻子多年以前就去世了，他一手把孩子拉扯大。
He raised those goats from new-born kids.
那些羊从小羊羔时就是他喂养的。
keep: 表示“养活（指人）；饲养（指动物或禽畜）”。
John has his wife and six children to keep(support).
约翰要养活妻子和六个孩子。
They kept some hens and pigs.
他们养了一些鸡和猪。
support: 意为“养活”，不用于饲养动物。
She supports her old mother.
她赡养老母亲。
He has a large family to support.
他要养活一大家子。
feed: 意为“喂养；饲养；以......为食”。
Have you fed the baby／cow yet?
婴儿／牛喂了吗？
She fed meat to her dog. ＝She fed her dog with／on meat.
她用肉喂狗。
Foxes feed on small animals.
狐狸以小动物为食。
【例句用法】
1.Keep straight on until you get to the church.
一直朝前走就走到教堂了。
2.Please keep me a place in the queue.
排队时请给我占个位置。
3.You must keep your promise.
你必须遵守诺言。
4.That shop keeps everything you will need.
那商店经销所有你需要的东西。
5.I'll only keep you a few minutes.

二.back：n. 后面，背脊，靠背，后背，后卫 vt. 支持，后退 adv. 向后地 adj. 向后的，后面的，偏远的，过时的，积欠的
【词义辨析】
back, backward, hind, behind,
back: 作为副词或形容词时，强调所修饰物的位置以及动作运动方向。
backward: 可用于人或物，指向后的，落后的或迟钝的。
hind: 指成对并且分前后的东西的“后面的”。
behind: 指一物同它物相对的位置或场所。
back, uphold, support, sustain, advocate,
back: 通常指对论点、行动、事业等的强有力支持。
uphold: 既可指积极努力对陷入困境者的支持，也可指给某人在行动、道义或信仰上的支持。
support: 含义广泛，多指在道义上或物质上支持某人，也可指对某项事业的支持。
sustain: 侧重指连续不断的支持。
advocate: 多指通过写文章或发表演说等来支持或拥护，往往暗示提倡某事或为某事辩护。
【词语用法】
1.again同back的意思相近，但用法不同：
back与动词连用时，作为副词，常指退回到前一个状态，或是从与之前相反的状态返回去，而again不可这样用。
Give me my watch back.(NOT Give me my watch again.)
again与动词连用时，表示“重复，再一次”。
Can you play it again?
注意sell back和sell again的不同，前者是卖回给同一个人，后者是再次卖，卖给不同的人。
The bike you sold me is too small.
Can I sell it back to you?
If we buy this house and then have to move somewhere else, how easy will it be to sell it again?
当动词本身指“退回，返回”的意思时，不可再用back，而可以用again加强“退回，返回”的意思。
Stefan can never return to his country (again).
在副词+动词+介词结构中，back和again都表示“回到上一状态”。
I stood up, and then I sat (back) down (again).
2.back可以用在动词和主语之间，而again则不可以。
Take back your money.
Count the money again, please.(NOT Count again the money.)
3.back and forth，backwards and forwards以及to and fro意思相似，美国人常用第一种表达方式，而英国人习惯用后两种表达方式；
4.back of同in back of有“在……后面”的意思，美国人常用，前者比后者使用普遍；
5.back有时指“拖欠着的”，常见的搭配有back pay/salary（欠薪），back rent（欠租），back taxes（欠税）等；
6.注意as far back as the fifteenth century中第2个as后没有in。
【例句用法】
1.He proved that he was right and his critics had to back down.
他证明了他是正确的，而那些非难他的人不得不收起他们那一套。
2.Please back the check.
请在这张支票背后签名。
3.The organization is backed by the UN.
这机构得到联合国的资助。
4.You'll make your back ache if you carry those heavy buckets.
如果你背那些沉重的桶，你的背会痛的。
5.Stand back! You're stepping on my toes.
