一.glare：n. 闪耀光， 刺眼 v. 发眩光， 瞪视
【词义辨析】
1.blaze, flame, flare, glow, glare, flash, glitter, twinkle, light,
blaze: 指猛烈燃烧所发生强烈的光。
flame: 指一条或多条火舌，多用复数形式，指由许多火舌构成的大火。
flare: 指摇曳的火焰。
glow: 指像冶炼铁和钢时发出的红光。
glare: 指眩目的光。
flash: 指突然发出而随即消失的闪光。
glitter: 指连续发出闪烁不定的光。
twinkle: 指如星光等的闪烁。
light: 普通用词，指日、月、星或灯等的光。
2.glance, stare, glare,
glance: 意为“匆匆一瞥”，是不及物动词，其后必须接介词at, over等才可以接宾语。
He glanced at his watch.
他匆匆看了一下手表。
She glanced down the list of names.
她由上而下匆匆地看了一下名单。
stare: 意为“凝视”，它也是一个不及物动词，其后通常接介词at才能接宾语。
She stared at him in surprise.
她惊讶地瞪着他看。
He was staring out to the sea.
他凝目眺望大海。
glare: 意为“怒视；瞪眼”，也是不及物动词，其后要接介词at后才能接宾语。
They stood glaring at each other.
他们互相怒目而视地站着。
【例句用法】
1.The rabbit sat without moving, fascinated by the glare of our headlights.
我们的车的前灯把兔子照得蹲在那里一动也不动。
2.The windows were tinted to reduce the glare.

3.They stood there, glaring at each other.

二.start：v. 开始，出发，震惊 n. 开始，震动，领先优势，起推动作用的外力
【词语用法】
start与begin意思差不多，但是start意思稍广，有启动的意思。另外在更正式的形式中，更偏向于使用begin；
start表示“动身”时，常与for, from连用，但是不怎么与at连用。
I aw starting for Shanghai tomorrow.
我明天出发去上海。
start表示“动身”时，还常用现在时或现在进行时表示将来时。
I start tomorrow.
start in/out同start一样，解释为“开始”，是不及物动词，常用于口语。
He started (in/out) the task at once.
他马上开始任务。
start有如下搭配：start doing， start to do， start in，start in doing；
at the start与from the start之间的区别：at the start是起初的意思，from the start是从头便。
【错句举例与错句分析】
错句：The quarrel started in competition between two tribes.
纠正：The quarrel originated in competition between two tribes.
翻译：争论起源于两个部落之间的竞争。
分析：originate是起源于的意思，这句话的意思是战争起源于两个部落的竞争，更符合意思。
【例句用法】
1.She started at the sound of my voice.
她听到了我的声音，蓦地一惊。
2.The society was started in 1980.
该协会是1980年创建的。
3.What a start you gave me!
你吓了我一大跳！
4.We are just about to start.
我们正要出发。
5.We must make a new start.
我们必须重新开始。
