七个加强词让你的英语更高级

来源:可可英语 编辑:alice   可可英语APP下载 |  可可官方微信:ikekenet

Hi. I'm Rebecca from engVid.After teaching English for more than 30 years, my goal in all my lessons is to help you to learn English more quickly and easily.

嗨。我是 Rebecca 来自engVid。在教了30多年英语后,我所有的课程目标都是帮助你们更快更简单地学习英语。
So in the next few minutes you're going to be able to take your English to a higher level by learning seven advanced expressions with intensifiers.
那么在接下来的几分钟,你会通过学习7种用加强词的高级表达方式来让你英语能提升到一个更高的层次。
Now, what does that mean? What are intensifiers?Let's find out. Okay?
那么,这是什么意思?什么是加强词?我们来一看究竟。好吗?
So let's start with this example in a general situation. Okay?"Joan likes music."
那么我们从一个一般情况下的例子开始。好吗?“Joan 喜欢音乐。”
We can say that, or we could say: "Joan really likes music."
我们可以这么说,或者我们可以说:“ Joan 真的喜欢音乐。”
In this example, the word "really" is an intensifier, and what an intensifier does is that it strengthens or emphasizes the verb.
在这个例子里,单词 "really" 就是一个加强词,加强词就是它会加强或者强调动词。
She doesn't just like music, she really likes music, and that's fine to say. Okay? That's called an adverb intensifier. All right?
她不只是喜欢音乐,她真的爱音乐,这样说很好。对吧?这种被称为副词加强词。对吧?
Doesn't matter, but maybe for those of you who like to understand grammar, I'm just telling you what the words are.
这不重要,但可能你们中的一些人喜欢理解语法,我只是告诉你这些单词是什么。

All right, let's look at another example from a business context.

好了,我们来看另一个在商务语境下的例子。
"We appreciate your offer." Okay?No intensifier, there.
“我们感谢你的帮助。”对吧?这里没有加强词。
The next example: "We really appreciate your offer."
下一个例子:“我们真的感谢你的帮助。”
Now, again, the word "really" was the intensifier.
那么,再说一次,单词 "really" 就是一个加强词。
But do we use only "really" as intensifiers? No.
但我们只用 "really" 作为形容词吗?不是的。
We use many, many other words because it would be very boring to keep saying "really" all the time.
我们还有很多,很多其他单词因为总是不停说 "really" 是非常无聊的。
Also, "really" might be fine in this example because it's kind of informal and conversational,
同样的,"really" 可能在这个例子里不错,因为它是有些非正式或者口头性质的,
but here it's a little bit more formal, a little bit more businesslike, so you want to use better English, you want to use more advanced English, and you want to use more advanced expressions.
但是这里,这是有点正式的,有点商务性质的语境,而你想要用更高级的英语,用更高级的表达方式。
So, what do we usually say instead of that with the verb "appreciate"?
那么,我们通常用什么来替代它修饰动词 "appreciate"?
We usually say something like this: "We truly appreciate your offer." Okay?
我们通常会这么说:“我们由衷感谢你的帮助。”对吧?
Now, in this example, the word "truly" is the intensifier instead of "really". Right?
那么,在这个例子里,单词 "truly" 是替代 "really" 的加强词。对吧?
And the verb stays the same, so that's "appreciate".
而动词保持一致,所以 "appreciate"。
So, when you have an intensifier like "truly" or "really" plus a verb, like "appreciate", that's called a collocation. Okay?
所以,当你用一个像 "truly" 或 "really" 的加强词修饰一个动词时,比如 "appreciate",这被称为一种固定搭配。
Or a word combination, two words which are used together very frequently. All right?
或者是一个单词的组合,两个单词常常合在一起使用。对吧?
So people expect to hear them together. All right?
人们期待听到他们在一起。对吧?
So when you use them, you sound much more natural.
那么当你在使用他们的时候,你听起来会更自然。
You also sound a little bit more formal, more polite, more educated, a little bit more refined and cultured, and just more advanced in English.
你还会听起来正式一些,更礼貌,更有文化,更有教养且更讲究,也就是更高级的英语。
All right? Because obviously if you say: "I truly appreciate your offer", instead of saying: "I really appreciate your offer", then you're going to sound more advanced.
对吧?因为很明显如果你说:“我由衷感谢你的帮助”,而不是说:“我真的感谢你的帮助”,那么你就会听起来更高级。
Now, of course, it depends on the situation.
那么,当然,这依据于具体情况。
If you're just talking to friends, maybe you want to keep saying "really appreciate", but I'm going to show you seven other expressions...
如果你只是和朋友聊天,或许你想就一直说 "really appreciate",但我打算教你七种其他的表达...
Six other expressions-you've already learned one, all right?
六种其他的表达方式-你已经学了一种了,对吧?
Which you can use and which are used very often in academic circles and also in professional circles.
一个是你可以用的,而其他的是在学术或者是专业领域通常使用的。
Because you can use these expressions in speaking and writing, you can use them in social and business situations,
因为你可以在演讲和写作中用这些表达,你可以在社交或者商业场合用,
like especially in customer service, in meetings, negotiations, presentations, discussions. Right?
特别是比如客户服务中,会议中,协商中,展示中,讨论中。对吧?
And, of course, we can use them in a lot of academic situations, like in your essays, or your IELTS, or your TOEFL.
当然,我们也可以在很多学术情境这么用,像是你的论文,或者你的雅思写作,或托福写作中。
Imagine if you started using this kind of vocabulary instead of regular vocabulary.
想象一下假设你开始用这种单词而不是常规的单词。
Of course you're going to get higher marks. All right? So, let's look at some of these expressions.
那么你当然会得到更高的分数。对吧?那么,我们一起来看一些表达方式。
All right, so let's first start with an overview of these six advanced expressions. All right?
好,我们首先先来大概浏览一下这六个高级表达。好吗?
I'll just read them right now.Don't worry about understanding them or how to use them.
我会只是读一遍它们。不用单词理解他们或是如何使用他们。
I'm going to explain that in just a minute. Okay? All right.
我稍后会解释的。好吗?好了。
So the first one: "Strongly recommend", "honestly believe", "deeply regret", "fully recognize", "sincerely hope", and "positively encourage". Okay?
那么第一个:“强烈推荐”,“真心相信”,“深感遗憾”,“充分认识”,“真诚希望”,和“积极鼓励”。
So, what did you notice in those? Each of them had an intensifier. Right?
那么,在这里你注意到了什么?它们中每个都有一个加强词,对吧?
"Strongly", "honestly", "deeply", "fully", "sincerely", "positively", and each of them had a verb: "recommend", "believe", "regret", etc. Okay.
“强烈地”,“真心地”,“深深地”,“充分地”,“真诚地”,“积极地”,而且它们每个都有一个动词:“推荐”,“相信”,“遗憾”等等。
So, why are they expressions? Why are they called collocations?
所以,为什么他们是表达方式?为什么他们被称为固定搭配?
Because these expressions, these two-word combinations are used together, and they are recognized as good expressions to use together.
因为这些表达方式,这两个单词合体被一起使用,而且他们在一起是很好的表达方式。
All right? So let's go through them now so you understand exactly how to use them.
对吧?那么我们来一起学一遍它们这样你可以准确理解如何使用它们。
So, the first one: "We strongly recommend you back up your files."All right?
第一个:“我们强烈建议你备份你的文件。”对吧?
You see this instruction very often to do with your computer. Right?
你在用电脑工作时经常会看到这个指示。对吧?
So you don't want to lose your files, so they tell you: "We strongly recommend you back up your files."
所以你不想失去你的文件,那么它们告诉你:“我们强烈建议你备份你的文件。”
All right, another example: "I strongly recommend you go to the hospital."All right?
好,另一个例子:“我强烈建议你去医院。”对吧?
Now, I've used examples with "we" and "I", you can use any pronoun, or name, or anything like that. Okay?
那么,我已经用 "we" 和 "I" 举了例子,你也可以用任何代词,或人称,或其他类似的。对吧?
Let's go."We honestly believe he is innocent. He's not guilty. He is innocent."
我们继续。“我们真心相信他是无辜的。他是无罪的。他是清白的。“
Or: "I honestly believe you deserve a raise. You've been doing such a great job.
或者:“我真心相信你值得涨工资。你工作一直做得很好。
You deserve a raise."What's a raise?"A raise" means when you get more money. All right?
你值得加薪。”什么是加薪?"A raise" 意思就是你会得到更多的钱。对吧?
You can get a promotion, a higher position or...And sometimes with that you get more money, which is called a raise. All right?
你可能得到了提拔,有一个更高的职位…有时候你会得到更多的钱,也就是加薪。对吧?
Sometimes you get a promotion, but no raise; sometimes you get a raise, but no promotion; but sometimes you get both. All right.
有时候你得到了提拔,但是没有加薪;有时候你加薪了,但是没有被提拔;有时候你即加薪又得到了提拔。对吧。
Number three: "We deeply regret the inconvenience to our customers", or "to our passengers". All right?
第三个:“我们对给顾客造成的不便深感遗憾”,或是“乘客”。对吧?
If something went wrong, if you're on an airline and there's a delay, you might hear an announcement at the airport that says
如果某事出错了,如果你在机场上而飞机延误了,你可能会听见机场广播说
We deeply regret the inconvenience to our passengers, however we will be boarding in the next half an hour.
我们对给乘客造成的不便深感遗憾,但我们不得不在半小时之后登机。
Okay?Something like that.So this is a formal, very polite way of the airline telling you they're really sorry.Okay?
对吧?诸如此类的事情。这是一种正式的,非常礼貌的方式,机场告诉你它们真的很抱歉。对吧?
Next: "I deeply regret missing your wedding."
下一个:“我对错过你的婚礼深表遗憾。”
Now, just to review a little bit, so "regret", what does "regret" mean?
那么,简单回忆一下,"regret","regret" 是什么意思?
It basically means I'm sorry.Okay? It's a more formal word for that.
它通常意思是我很抱歉。对吧?它是一个更为正式的词汇。
And same here: "We honestly believe" means I honestly think.
同样这里:“我们真心相信” 意思是我真的认为。
And here: "We strongly recommend", means strongly advise or suggest.
而这里:"我们强烈建议",意思是强烈地建议或劝告。
Okay? Just in case you weren't sure what these words meant.
对吧?只是以防你不确定这些词汇的含义。
All right.Number four: "We fully recognize"...Sorry.
好的。第四个:“我们充分认识到”……抱歉。
"We fully recognize your contribution to the project."Okay?
“我们充分认识到了你对这个项目的贡献。”对吧?
Somebody did a lot of work on a project, and the company or the management says: "We fully recognize your contribution to the project."
某人在这个项目上做了很多工作,所以公司或者是管理层说:“我们充分认识到了你对这个项目的贡献。”
Or: "I fully recognize the importance of learning English."That's why I'm watching these videos.Okay. All right.
或者:“我充分认识到了学英语的重要性。”这就是我为什么在看这些视频课。对吧。很好。
"Fully recognize" means I really know, I completely know.I understand that.
“充分认识”意思是我真的知道,我完全知道。我理解这点。
I got it, I'm aware of it. Okay? All of these words basically mean "really", but they're just different words and more advanced words.
我明白了,我意识到了。对吧?所有这些单词基本都指“真地”的意思,但他们是不同的单词而且是更高级的词汇。
Number five: "We sincerely hope you will fly with us again."
第五:“我们真诚希望您能再一次搭乘我们的航班。”
After many flights, especially I noticed on American Airlines, they say this before you get off the plane, they say: "We sincerely hope you fly with us again. We really hope", okay?
坐过很多次飞机后,特别是我在美国航空上注意到,他们会在你下飞机之前这么说,他们说:“我们真诚希望您能再一次搭乘我们的航班。我们真诚希望”,对吧?
So, "sincerely" just means "really" also.Or you can say: "I sincerely hope you achieve your goals."
所以,"sincerely" 也是表达 "真地" 的意思。或者你可以说:“我真诚希望你可以达成目标。”
Okay? "I really hope that you achieve your goals."And "hope" is basically like a wish. All right.
对吧?“我真地希望你可以达成目标。”而 "hope" 基本就像是一个祝愿。没错。
And the next one: "We positively encourage our students to use the library."Positively encourage.
下一个:“我们积极鼓励学生使用图书馆。”积极鼓励。
"To encourage" means, again, to recommend. All right?"Positively", again, means really strongly, very much, really.
"To encourage"意思是,再一次,推荐。对吧?"Positively",再说一次,意思是很强烈地,非常地,真地。
Or we could say: "I positively encourage you to speak English as often as you can in order to improve your fluency."All right?
或者我们可以说:“我积极鼓励你尽可能地多说英语以提高你的流利度。”对吧?
So, again, all of these expressions are more advanced and they are considered good ways for you to get a higher mark and also to advance in your career
那么,再说一次,所有这些表达都更高级,它们被认为是你获取更高分数的好办法,还会提升你的层次
because you're using better, more sophisticated English.
因为你用的是更好,更讲究的英语。
All right?Let's do one last review to help you to remember these expressions and how they go together. All right?
对吧?我们一起最后回顾一下,来帮助你记住这些表达方式以及它们是如何搭配在一起的。对吧?
Okay, now, one more point: even though it's very good to use these advanced expressions, don't use them all the time-okay? -in the same piece of writing.
好了,现在,再说一点:尽管 用这些高级的表达方式很好,但不要在同一篇文章里一直用好吗?
Because sometimes they come across a little bit heavy, so you can use one, you can use another one, but don't use too many of them at one time because they are strong.Okay?
因为有时候它们碰到一起会有些沉重,你可以用一个,可以再用另一个,但不要在同一时间用太多,因为它们表达很强烈。对吧?
But to have a little fun and to review the seven expressions that you've just learned, we're going to read something that I wrote especially for you.
但为了以一种有点意思的方式回顾你们学习的7种表达方式,我们会读一段我专门写给你们的东西。
So: I sincerely hope you start using these expressions.I fully recognize they're a little challenging.
那么:我真心希望你们可以开始用这些表达方式。我完全理解他们是有些挑战性的。
I deeply regret there's no magic pill for learning English, but I honestly believe you can do it.
我对学英语没有魔药深感遗憾,但我真心相信你们可以做到的。
I strongly recommend you take the quiz at www. engvid. com.
我强烈建议你们在 www. engvid. com 网页做测试。
I truly appreciate the opportunity to help you to optimize your English.
我由衷感谢有这个机会帮助你们优化你们的英语。
And last: I positively encourage you to subscribe to my YouTube channel.Okay?
最后:“我积极鼓励你订阅我的YouTube 频道。对吧?
Now, one other thing you can do if you want to make sure that you really have learned these expressions is choose one,
那么,还有一件事你可以做,如果你想确保你真的学会了这些表达方式,那就选择一个,
even just one expression, and leave a comment on our engVid comments, okay?
即使只是一个表达方式,在我们 engVid 的评论区留言,好吗?
