The Intern,

A fashion company run by Jules Ostin, played by Anne Hathaway hired an unconventional intern, a seventy-year-old widower Ben Whittaker.

Ben went through a period of retirement, he felt empty void in his heart and decided to get back to work. Later Ben became a valuable employee and stared an unexpected friendship with the company’s CEO Jules Ostin.

Freud said, Love and work... work and love, that's all there is.

Ben says in the voice-over at the beginning:

Retirement is an ongoing, relentless effort in creativity.

You can try yoga, like to cook, bought some plants, took classes in Mandarin. Believe me, I've tried everything. I just know there's a hole in my life and I need to fill it... soon.

Ben

I want the connection, the excitement, I want to be challenged and I guess I might even want to be needed. The tech stuff might take a bit to figure out. I had to call my 9-year-old grandson just to find out what a USB connector was. But I'll get there. Eager to learn.

I read once, musicians don’t retire. They stop when there’s no more music in them. Well, I still have music in me. Absolutely positive about that.’

Ben

Even though Ben was almost completely ignored by his boss to begin with, his dedication to works and attention to details helped him win back trust from his colleagues and boss.

When he found no one cleaned the messy desk though Jules hated it, he went on to clean it. When he noticed Jules’s driver just drank alcohol, he warned the driver and later drove Jules to her destination by himself, helping her to find the shortest path.

"The thing that I always think about interns is, even if you have to get a cup of coffee, if you can do it the right way, and the way it's been asked of you, that simple little thing is as important as figuring out some kind of huge mathematical problem. That little thing is just as important, because it's an indication of what you are willing to do - and the care that you take in that simple little task, because it's not so simple really, is important."

Experience Never Gets Old.

You’re never wrong to do the right thing.

When Jules tried to find an experienced CEO to replace herself, she gradually found Ben to be more like a mentor, enabling her to continue the good fight ahead.

During that time, Jules also found her husband was cheating on her. She hoped that finding someone to replace her can save her time at work and win her husband back.

Ben told Jules--You’re never wrong to do the right thing.

He says,

This big, beautiful, intricate thing that you created — it’a dream isn’t it?…and you're gonna give that up in the hopes that your husband will stop having an affair? I don't see how that adds up. You should feel nothing but great about what you’ve done. Don’t let anybody take that away from you.

You started this business all by yourself a year and a half ago and now you have a staff of 220 people. Remember who did that.

Jules

Mark Zuckerberg never brought in a CEO - and he was a teenager!"

Ben

So that’s why Ben says you’re never wrong to do the right thing--once you have the answer for yourself, just go for it. That is the right thing for YOU. Doing the right thing is never wrong though it often takes great courage.

Find the inner peace.
