These homemade treats are a great way to learn about birds and find out which species are in your neighborhood!

Making pinecone birdfeeders is easy and fun!

These are the materials you will need: pinecones (you can start out with one if you want) peanut butter (or vegetable shortening, if you have an allergy) birdseed (like sunflower seeds, mixed seed bags, or hemp) string and bowls Lets get started.

First, scoop one cup of peanut butter into a bowl.

You'll be surprised at how much birdseed sticks to the peanut butter!

Let your covered pinecone dry for a few hours indoors.

Once the peanut butter is stiff, take the pinecone feeder and hang it up somewhere in your backyard or on your porch.

Try and find a branch or bush near a window so you and your family can watch the birds that come by and feed from it.

Count how many different birds come to your pinecone feeder, and ask an adult to help look them up to see what they're called!

You can also make more feeders to place around the neighborhood to make sure all the birds have plenty to eat during the winter!
