Shortly after the earthquake in Sichuan, office workers in east Beijing were evacuated soon after they felt the tremor.
Buildings swayed for more than two minutes but there were no reports of damage or injuries.
However, experts have said the tremors in Beijing were not an earthquake but the aftermath of the quake more than a thousand kilometer away.
Jiang Haikun, is from China's State Seismological Bureau.
"The tremors felt in Beijing were not an independent earthquake that occurred in the capital city. They were only the aftermath from the same earthquake which happened in Sichuan. There was no earthquake in Beijing."
