On Sunday, President Hu Jintao visited quake victims in Longnan City in northwest China's Gansu Province.
After a two-hour-plus drive through the mountains, Hu arrived at the badly-hit Jiangjiashan village. He urged local government officials to build quake-resistant houses for the villagers.
He also expressed his gratitude for the soldiers, stressing that while devoted to the post-quake reconstruction, the soldiers should also try to protect themselves.
President Hu also visited the First People's Hospital of Longnan City. He went to a tent and shook hands with several Pakistani medical workers there. The medical team consists of 28 people. Hu praised them for their excellent skills and all-out efforts.
Hu also urged local governments to create a safe and comfortable environment for local children's post-quake education.
Also on Sunday, Li Changchun,a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China, visited injured children at a hospital and quake-affected students at a tent school in quake-hit Mianyang City in Sichuan Province Sunday afternoon. He wished them a happy holiday on Children's Day.
He also offered school supplies to the children as presents.
