Egypt to form new government; 41 dead in clashes
Egypt's military rulers have appointed Kamal Ganzouri as the country's new Prime Minister..
Ganzouri held the position of Prime Minister under Hosni Mubarak from 1996 to 1999.
He now faces the daunting task of trying to form an interim government that is able to appease the protesters, who have been massing throughout the week in protest against the ruling military council.
Meanwhile, the military in Egypt is offering up an apology for the deaths of protesters in clashes with police.
Days of violence have left at least 41 people dead and thousand others injured.
Libya's new interim government swears in
Libya has now sworn in a new interim government.
Prime Minister Abdurrahim el-Keeb and his 18-member cabinet have been officially sworn in by National Transitional Council chair Mustafa Abdel Jalil.
"I must offer thanks to everyone who worked with us at this stage and who are not included in this government. They went through a difficult time and we must thank them because we had very little resources and there were many demands on us."
El-Keeb's government is expected to pave the way for elections to be held in 7 months.
ALgives Syria 48 hours to sign observer mission protocol
The Arab League has given the Syrian government a 48-hour deadline to sign off on allowing observers into its country.
If Damascus misses the deadline, the Arab League is set to meet again on the weekend to discuss economic sanctions on the country.
The sanctions would include halting Arab transactions with the Syrian Central Bank, as well as trade with the government.
The Arab League is also threatening to freeze Syrian government assets, on top of canceling all flights into the country.
Iranaccuses CIA spies of targeting nuclear plans; arrests 12
Iran has arrested 12 spies of the US Central Intelligence Agency, accusing them of targeting the country's military and its nuclear program.
Parviz Sorouri, a member of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, says the agents have been operating in co-ordination with Israel's Mossad and other regional agencies.
In May, Iran said it arrested 30 people after breaking up a spy network run by the CIA.
At least 26 bodies dumped in Guadalajara, Mexico
Suspected drug gang hitmen have murdered at least 26 people and dumped their bodies in the center of Mexico's second city of Guadalajara.
The bodies were found in several vans abandoned in the city, together with a message from drug cartels.
An official with the attorney-general's office says the death toll could rise beyond the 26 confirmed so far.
It is the fourth mass public dumping of bodies in regional centers in just over two months. Officials have blamed the killings on a brutal turf war between rival drug cartels.
China continues safe nuke energy
China has pledged to continue to develop nuclear power and says its safety can be ensured.
Zhang Guobao, advisory board chairman of the National Energy Administration, says it is inevitable to include nuclear power as a significant component of China's effort to resolve energy problems.
China suspended approvals for new nuclear power plants and announced a sweeping review of nuclear safety and atomic energy laws and regulations less than a week after Japan's Fukushima disaster in March.
China has 14 existing reactors and 27 are under construction.
64 Punished over Refinery Accidents
The head of China's largest oil producer is one of 64 people punished for four major accidents in northeast China's Dalian City, including oil pipeline explosions in July last year that led to the country's worst oil spill.
Jiang Jiemin, president of PetroChina, has been given disciplinary punishments.
14 people have been handed over to judicial departments for criminal charges.
The explosions in July 2010 happened during the transfer of crude oil from a ship to a storage tank.
One firefighter was killed.
6,000 evacuated after chemical plant explosion in S China
An explosion has ripped through a warehouse at a chemical plant in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou, forcing the evacuation of about 6,000 residents.
No casualties have been reported but a small amount of hydrogen chloride, a toxic gas, had been detected in the air in neighboring areas.
The warehouse was a storage facility for oxidant.
Firefighters are still at the scene managing the aftermath of the blast.
Ceremony to mark the start of CRI's English service
A ceremony has been held in a north China village to mark the start of the English Service of China Radio International.
The event was held in Shahe Village, Shexian county of Handan city, in Hebei Province. It came as CRI is celebrating its 70th founding anniversary.
CRI's English Service started in the village on September 11, 1947.
