There were two other films that I saw later on in the mid-1960s that had just as much of an effect. I had left the theatre and was working in television when I saw a Czech film called A Blonde in Love by Milos Forman. It really endorsed everything that I was trying to achieve with my own work, but hadn’t managed to. It was about people and families, observed in a way that was full of humanity and humour, but still critical in theme.
