WARMING UP

When you do the three exercises on pags 15 try to use as many Ws and Hs as you can. What are the Ws and Hs? They are who, what, when, where, why, how, how long, how soon, many, how much, etc. and etc. You've got to ask yourself questions begining with the Ws and Hs and give answers and your answers put together will help you write a well-organized composition, an article, a dialogue, a composition and a sort of discourse.

That is the way to talk about things and write about things and also the way to understand whatever you read and whatever you hear. After reading 2. "What do you have to consider before you decide which means of transportation you will use"? Let's have a look at the photograph below. Can you say something about this airliner based on what you know about it? Where is this airliner flying?
The words "VIRGIN A TLANTIC" tells us that it is the first time for this plane to fly aeross the Atlantic Ocean.
It was August Ist, 2002. An A340-600 was flying from London to New York for the first time after it was manufactured. "A" stands for "Air Bus".
This plane is the largest airliner ever made, 75.3 meters in length.
Have you decided which means of transportation you will use ?

Listen to the tape and write down the three passages several times until there are no mistakes in your writing.
1 Listen to the following boarding calls and write down the correct flight number destination and gate below.
2 Listen to the five world travellers and try to guess where they are.

SPEAKING

This section requires more imagination than grammar and vocabulary.However,when you are not sure of what word to use and what sentence pattern to chose turn to those English-English dietionaries for help. "OXFORD ADVANCED LEARNER'S DICTIONARY", " LONGMAN DICTIONARY OF CONTEMPORARY ENGLISH", "OWEN WATSON", will be your great help when you are trying to learn about information about countries places you've planned to go to.

PRE-READING

Do this section in the same way you did SPEAKING. What does "adventure travel" refer to ? Look it up in those English-English dietionaries. Then you find: adventure n.
1. (C) unusual, exciting or dangerous experience or undertaking
have an adventure for example, I'm going to have an adventure in the ocean.
her adventures in Africa. for example, She had advantures in Africa.
2. (U) excitement associated with danger, taking risks, etc
a love/spirit/sense of adventure, for example She has a deep love of adventure.
a life full of adventure, for example He has a life full of adventure.
It can be as an attrib.. For example, adventure stories.

PRE-READING

Make sentences with the example given after the definition of the word "adventure". All this is found on pags 18 in OXFORD ADVANCED LEARNER'S DICTIONARY. If you go on reading on the same page, you may find words that have something to do with "adventure" such as adventurer, adventuress, adyenturous, adventurously, and adventure playground. That's the way to build up your vocabulary and consolidate your mastery of grammar usage.
