Nick:Hi everybody, this is Nick. Welcome to teaching series"how do you say this in American English."
Nick:大家好,我是Nick.
Brad:大家好,我是Brad
Nick:今天呢,我们要讲的是"literally""简直了"。就是说我们在中文大家也经常说对吧,这个人简直怎么样怎么样,这个人简直令人讨厌,简直无法理喻,你这个人简直怎么样。那这个简直你当然可以用SO啦You are so...但是我们在美语里面用的非常常见的就是literally。首先注意下这个发音Lit-er-al-ly,我们通常因为这个叫闪音就是't'litter,后面有一个'e'前面有一个'i'两个元音的情况下。(或者说)在一个stressed,就是强读,一个不强读的情况下,我们可以把这个"t"堵成一个类似于"d"的音,就是闪音,就是我们叫做flap.有点像"d"的音,但不要完全读成"d".这个还是有点难的。另外一个发音要点就是"ly",不要读成"lei",是"ly".Could you pronounce that to the audience?
Brad:Lit-er-al-ly, literally
Nick:But we usually pronounce T differently, like liTerally.
Brad:If you say it fast, it's literally. We don't really put emphasis on it. It's like in one breath.
Nick:那Brad刚才给我们示范了一下正确的读音,那我们就讲解一下怎么用。那这个就是刚刚说的So, Brad, like we just talked about, it's like a word for emphasizing a situation, right?
Brad:Yeah literally, you use it before a word (an adjective or a verb)
Nick:Remember last couple of lessons? We taught people"act up".In that kind of situation, I can say,"hey, stop acting up, you are literally annoying"
Brad:Yeah, you are literally not the dictionary word annoying. That's impossible to be. So that's what I'm saying,"you are being annoying". One can say, you are literally annoying.
Nick:To emphasize you are really really,so annoying.I really hate that.
Brad:Right, or like you are literally driving me crazy. You are not driving me to a town called"crazy". Cause you are very much calling me"crazy", that's what"literally" means.
Nick:In speaking, in spoken English. I know this word is so often used. It's even more often used than the word"absolutely", at least from what I saw.
Brad:Generally speaking, liberally is more informal. You would not write an essay, saying this is literally so me." you would not do that. You'd say,"this absolutely matches my personal traits." This how you record it. To be fancy, to be formal. You wouldn't say"literally" to be formal.
Nick:Ok, thank you.那Brad刚刚就是解释说这个"literally"不是字面上的意思,它意思就是"从字面上来说"。它的解释,它的Meaning就是"从字面上来说"。比如说You drive me crazy. You literally drive me crazy 或者She drives me crazy. She literally drives me crazy 不是说你驾驶我到了一个地方就做"Crazy"不是这样的,这个"literally"主要是起一个强调的作用,就是说"你简直...".我们这个简直中文也是起强调,"你简直笨,你简直傻,你简直令人讨厌".都是一个强调作用,所以这不是它本意,它本意是"从字面来说" 包括大家翻译的时候也要注意一下如果口语的时候有"literally"大家要注意一下,不要翻译成,从字面上来说怎么怎么样,这是错误的。So this is pretty much it for this time. I'll see you guys next time, bye.
Brad: Bye everyone!
