Hello. I'm John Russell.
你好。我是约翰·罗素。
In previous videos, we explored words stress, saying a word louder, or in a higher pitch.
在之前的视频中,我们探讨了单词的重音,大声说一个单词,或用更高的音调说一个单词。
Word stress, is part of what makes an American sound like an American.
单词重音是让美国人听起来像美国人的一部分。
For today's lesson, imagine you want to describe something -- a day, a person, a place.
在今天的课程中,想象你想描述某物——一天,一个人,一个地方。
Nouns and adjectives play a very important role in such descriptions.
名词和形容词在这种描述中起着非常重要的作用。
And there are certain ways that Americans stress nouns and adjectives.
美国人会用某些方式重读名词和形容词。
In general, when an adjective is followed by a noun, Americans stress the noun.
一般来说,当形容词后面跟名词时,美国人会重读名词。
Here's an example: It's a nice day.
举个例子:今天天气很好。
The sentence has an adjective, nice, and a noun, day.
这句话中有形容词nice,一个名词day。
Notice that I put more stress on the noun day. it's a nice day.
注意,我把重音更多地放在了名词day上。(今天天气很好。)
Or consider this description: He has green eyes.
或者看一下这个描述:他有一双绿色的眼睛。
Once again, the stress is on the noun eyes.
再一次,重音放在了名词eye眼睛上。
There is less stress on green。
不重读green。
You might be asking yourself about situations in which two adjectives go before a noun.
你可能会问两个形容词放在一个名词前面的情况。
For example, she has short black hair.
例如:她留着黑色的短发。
In this case, there is stress on the first adjective and the noun.
在这种情况下,第一个形容词和名词重读。
The noun still gets the most stress.
名词仍然需要重读。
You can take these basic ideas to make your own descriptions.
你可以用这些基本概念来做你自己的描述。
Just be sure to try to stress the noun more than the adjective.
试着重读名词而不是形容词。
That's all for today.
以上就是今天的全部内容。
Keep up the good work.
继续加油吧。
