Chinese Actress Zheng Shuang Ordered to Pay $8.21 Million in Compensation for TV Series Ban Due to Tax Evasion

Chinese actress Zheng Shuang, who faced a hefty fine of 299 million yuan ($40.91 million) for tax evasion in 2021, has been instructed by a Shanghai court to provide compensation of 60 million yuan ($8.21 million) to an investor for economic losses resulting from her misconduct.

Zheng, whose reputation took a severe hit after allegations of abandoning her two surrogate babies in the United States in 2021, received penalties for her tax evasion, including nearly 220 million yuan in fines and 72 million yuan in taxes, as imposed by the Shanghai Municipal Tax Service in August 2021.

The investor, a film and television investment company based in Haining, East China's Zhejiang Province, entered into a service contract with Zheng's company on January 13, 2016. Under this agreement, the investor paid 30.5 million yuan to Zheng's company for planning services over a 70-workday period.
