Relief workers from all over the country have been working around the clock to build make-shift shelters, urgently needed by quake survivors in Sichuan province.
Around 200 enterprises in east China's Jiangsu province have offered 30 thousand tents. Builders from Jiangsu have completed 100 temporary shelters in Mianzhu. Eighty thousand residents will be able to move in by June 25th.
Jia Deyu is the director of Nanjing Municipal Construction Bureau.
"We haven't slept for two days. We heard that time is quite limited, so we immediately started working without any rest."
Aid workers from Beijing have set up over 300 temporary shelters in Mianyang. A total of 80,000 shelters are expected to be completed by the end of June.
Huang Wei is the vice minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.
"We are working fast. And the quality is quite good. The shelters were made to last for three years, but it won't be a problem for these shelters to last one or two decades."
Meanwhile, local villagers also voluntarily joined the construction work. Huang Yantong is a villager in Shifang.
"We are all working together so that our new homes can be finished earlier and we can move in sooner."
In the meantime, relief materials, including medicines, tents, communication devices and cables, are being sent to the quake-hit regions. Donations are continuing to pour in from around the country.
