China's Top Legislature Wraps up Annual Session

China's parliament has concluded its annual session in Beijing. Lawmakers have adopted a series of plans for the nation's development. They've shown strong confidence in the government's incentives to improve people's livelihoods amid the current bleak global economic situation.

The Second Session of the 11th National People's Congress, or NPC, wrapped up in Beijing on Friday.
While delivering a closing speech, China's top lawmaker,Wu Bangguo, said the resolutions adopted by the session fully reflect a shared wish of all Chinese people.
He also encouraged the nation to work hard as the country continues to face hardships and challenges.
Meanwhile, lawmakers say that they have faith in China's economic development based on the resolutions adopted in Premier Wen Jiabao's government work report.
Shan Xiaoming is a deputy of eastern China's Jiangsu province.
"I think the incentives of the government work report issued by our State Council are quite effective against the negative impact of the global financial crisis on China's economy. It also gives us confidence to face the challenges ahead."
The government report has called on the nation to promote economic and social development and outlined an all-around stimulus plan to achieve an economic growth of around 8 percent.
Ling Jiefang is a deputy from the country's central Henan province.
"I strongly believe we could achieve the goal with arduous effort, although our strain capacity still needs to be re-enforced. This requires the consistent contribution of all the Chinese people."
Yang Yaozhong from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region highlights the particular importance of people's livelihoods.
"The maintenance of people's livelihoods is very important. And in particular, as our hopes of building a harmonious society at such circumstances, the well-being of the general public, such as health care and education, should top the agenda of the central government."
This year's session received 518 motions, covering economy, politics, culture, society and ecology.
At the closing ceremony, the Chinese lawmakers also adopted resolutions on the national development plan, budgets, and the work reports of the legislature's Standing Committee, the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate.
