1. 啃老 to live off one's parents

live off指的是“依赖某人生活”,live还可以用sponge来替代,sponge off/on sb指的就是“白吃白拿,蹭饭”,美语中也可以用mooch来表达,与sponge同义,但更具讽刺意味。

He's been living off his parents since he dropped out of college.

He's been sponging off his parents for years, and hasn't worked a day in his life.

She's been mooching off her parents since she graduated from college.

He's a freeloader who still lives with his parents at 35 and doesn't pay rent.

It sounds like your partner is providing a lot of emotional value in your relationship.

Providing emotional value is a two-way street.

My partner always knows how to make me feel better when I'm down.

A gentle arm on my shoulder makes me feel loved.

I made her feel taken care of and she made me feel strong -- right up until the day she left.

What forces Chinese white-collars to flee first-tier cities?

China now has 15 new first-tier cities in addition to the country's original big four of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen.

She is a country girl who dreams of the big city and bright lights.

We're sticking to the megacities.

The crowded metropolises often bother me.

除此之外,还可以用deplete one's funds,deplete也是“耗尽”的意思,funds指的是“资金”,以及比较常见的表达:spend all of one's money(花光所有的钱),use up all of one's savings(用完所有的储蓄)等。

I drained my life savings to buy a home.

I spent so much money on that shopping spree that I almost sucked my bank account dry.

She went on a luxury vacation, but it depleted her funds.

John used up all of his savings to start his own business.
