Court hears copyright case against Baidu
百度再涉侵权案 索赔299万余元
China’s biggest internet search engine company, Baidu, is in court, accused of violating copyright. The case involves Baidu’s Library platform in which users can upload and download documents free of charge.
A subsidiary of the China Youth Publishing House accuses Baidu of disseminating three of its works online without permission, causing serious financial loss.
Baidu says the "haven principle” should apply in copyright cases like this, claiming it has no obligation to examine materials uploaded by web users.
Back in 2012, a Chinese court ordered Baidu to compensate three writers for copyright infringement in a widely watched trial.
