Experts argue against death penalty despite public support

While nearly everyone agrees that child trafficking is a heinous crime, there's considerable debate about whether the death penalty is a fitting deterrent punishment or not.
The public seems to be in favor of giving capital punishment to child traffickers. A poll carried out on web portal Sina shows that more than 80% of the respondents voted in favor of the death penalty. But opposition voices have emerged too. Many come from legal scholars and sociologists. Some scholar argue that the appeal for death is not rational, and that crimes should be handled more objectively.
They also propose severe punishments for buyers. Others say that extreme punishments may actually put the abducted children in danger as they may make the criminals more desperate.
