Powerful typhoon makes landfall in Taiwan
强台风登陆台湾
Typhoon Soudelor has made landfall in Taiwan early Saturday morning, and is expected to further sweep through eastern Chinese mainland later in the day. Authorities forecast more than 600 millimetres of rainfall in parts of Taiwan.
Soudelor is expected to land on the coast of Fujian Province Saturday night. It is likely to be the first typhoon this year affecting the highest number of areas in China. Nine provinces and cities -- including Fujian, Guangdong, Shanghai and Zhejiang -- will be hit by heavy rainfall and gales in the following days.
