1.Mr. Collins was punctual to his time, and was received with great politeness by the whole family. Mr. Bennet, indeed, said little; but the ladies were ready enough to talk, and Mr. Collins seemed neither in need of encouragement, nor inclined to be silent himself.

【难句解析】be punctual to“在...事上准时”;be received with...“以...礼相待”;inclined to“倾向于...”;

2.He had not been long seated before he complimented Mrs. Bennet on having so fine a family of daughters, said he had heard much of their beauty, but that, in this instance, fame had fallen short of the truth;

【难句解析】not long...before...意思是“一...就...”;fall short of“没有达到...”;

【句子翻译】他刚一坐下来就恭维班纳特太太福气好,养了这么多好女儿,他说,早就听到人们对她们美貌赞扬备至,今天一见面,才知道她们的美貌远远超过了她们的名声;

3.Not that I mean to find fault with you, for such things, I know, are all chance in this world. There is no knowing how estates will go when once they come to be entailed.

【难句解析】find fault with“找...的毛病,怪责...”;

4.and he begged to know to which of his fair cousins, the excellence of its cookery was owing.

【难句解析】owe to...“归功于...”;
