Today, let's continue our review of vowel sounds.

Think of /倒er/ as a very flexible vowel sound.
把/倒er/想象成一个非常灵活的发音。
It is flexible in the sense that it can be spelled many different ways.
它非常灵活，有很多不同的拼写方式。
Part of the Challenge of learning to read and speak English is knowing when to use the /倒er/ sound.
说英语的一大挑战就是什么时候发/倒er/的音。
A quick review, the /倒er/ vowel sound can be spelled with the letters, "er", "ear", "ir", "or" or "ur".
快速回顾一下，可以发/倒er/音的字母组合有 “er”、“ear”、“ir”、“or” 、 “ur”。
Notice that all of these spellings have one or two vowels before the letter "r".
注意一下，所有这些字母组合，都是“r”前面有一到两个字母。
So let's practice.

I will say a sentence, and you should listen for the /倒er/ sound.

Count how many times you hear it.

What were the first few words that you learned?

In the sentence I said the /倒er/ sound 4 times, "were first words learned".

Let's go to our second practice question.

I learned the verb "be" in all of its forms.

In the sentence, you heard the /倒er/ sound 2 times, "learned verb".

Here's our third sentence.

I heard some new English words when I was at work.

I said the /倒er/ sound 3 times, "heard words" and "work".
