And today we're going to show you how to make a nest box.

So the kind of nest box we're going to make today is a small nest box for small birds, things like blue tits, grey tits and sparrows,

depending on what you get in the garden that you're going to put it in.

So to make a nest box, ideally we would use a bit of timber like this.

But don't worry if you haven't got any timber like this lying around, you can use any kind of timber.

For instance, this one I made a while ago was from some old fencepost that was lying in the garden.

Now, for quickness, I've already cut the bits that we need. You will need an adult to help you do this.

So you will need things like a front door, you need a back, you need the sides of the box, you need a roof and you need the floor.

So when we open the box together, you will need either a power drill, which is what I'm going to use today,

or if you don't have one of those a normal screwdriver, and then we have the screws.

Now, remember, you do need a grown-up to help you, because a lot of these are sharp and pointy.

When I'm making the nest box, I always start by the two sides.
我做巢箱的时候，都是从两个侧板开始的。
I'm just using this to hold it in place. And then we've got the back of that the box.

I've already put holes in here and what we need to do is we need to put screws in to join the two togetherm, and then the same on the other side.

Next thing we want to do is add a floor. And the reason we've put a floor in is we don't want the birds to fall out.

So we just need to put one screw in each side of the floor just to keep it in place.
我们只需要在地板的两边各放一颗螺丝就可以把它固定住。
The next part is to add the front of the box that has the front door.

So we've got two on this side, and then we do the same on that side, two on there, and then one on the base.
这边要钻进去两个螺丝，这边也一样，也是钻进去两个螺丝，下面钻进一个。
So we're nearly finished. We want to go one more bit to do, and that is to add the roof.
我们差不多快完成了。还有一件事，那就是加上箱顶。
We need one screw on either side, and when that's done, you're all complete.
两边各钻进去一颗螺丝钉，钻完之后，就全部完工了。
So don't worry if the box is a little bit wonky, the birds don't need it to be perfect. All they care about is safety and shelter.
如果巢箱有点不稳，不要担心，鸟儿们不需要它很完美。它们只在乎安全和庇护。
So we're just going to screw it to this post here.

But remember, you do need a grown-up to help you to do this bit.

You can put it up on a tree, you can put it up on a fence, you can put it up on a wall. It doesn't really matter.

It just it has to be at a safe enough height, so that cats and birds of prey that might attack other birds won't get to it.
