1.scissors n. 剪刀

5.circumstance n. 环境,(复数)境况,事件,详情

由于无法控制的情况,讲座取消了。

6.sagacity n. 精明,敏锐,有远见

Sagacity, unlike cleverness, may increase with age.
睿智与机灵不同,前者可随着年龄增加。

7.convince vt. 使确信,使信服,说服

I try to convince him of the reality of the danger.
我试图使他相信危险的确存在。

8.composure n. 镇静,沉著

Keep calm; don't lose your composure.
保持镇静,不要惊慌失措。

9.standing n. 持续,地位 adj. 永久的,不动的,直立的,不流动的 动词stand的现在分词

His meanness has become something of a standing joke.
他的小气已成了经常引人发笑的笑料。
