基本概况
Beijing jiaotong university(BJTU)located at Xizhimenwai of Beijing，is a national key university of China，directly under the administration of the Ministry of Education and is developed with the Point efforts of the Minisiry of Education and the ministry of Railways. BJTU is one of the first universities authorized by the State Council to grant doctorate and master degrees，and also one of the first group of universities admitted to Project 211 .In 1997 BJTU was evaluated as one of the first universities for Outstanding in Undergraduate Program and its graduate school was formed in June 2004，authorized by the Ministry of education.
北京交通大学位于北京西直门外，是教育部直属、由教育部和铁道部共建的全国重点大学，是全国首批博士、硕士学位授予高校，是首批进人国家“2I1工程”建设的高校，1997年被评为首批全国本科教学工作优秀学校，2004年6月经教育部批准正式设立研究生院。
Her predecessor is Beijing Railway Management Training Institute set up by Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of Qing Dynasty. Over the past hundred years，after arduous efforts and struggles of generations，BJTU has developed into a multidisciplinary and research-orientated key university with science and technology in traffic as its characteristic，featuring engineering management economics science，humanities，law and philosophy. Meanwhile，our university is a key base for training talents tackling vital problems concerning technologies and policies inreforming and modernizing railway
北京交通大学的前身是清政府邮电部创办的北京铁路管理传习所。一百余年来，数代交大人励精图治、艰苦奋斗，学校发展为以交通科学与技术为特色，工、管经、理、文、法、哲等协调发展的多科性、研究型大学:学校成为培养解决铁路现代化建设与改革重大技术与政策间题的高水平人才的重要基地。
BJTU is situated in Haidian District of Beijing and its campus covers an area of 73 hectares，with 580 thousand square meters of floor space. BJTU has 5 state key disciplines，11 ministerial key disciplines 8 post-doctoral scientific research stations，11 doctorate programs in first-level disciplines，60 doctorate programs in second-level disciplines，102 graduate programs 5 disciplines are granted to establish the positions of“Cheungkong Scholars Program
学校位于北京海淀区，总面积近73公顷，建筑面积58万平方米。北京交通大学有5个国家级重点学科，11个部级重点学科，8个博士后科研流动站，l1个一级学科博士点、60个二级学科博士点、102个硕士点，5个学科被列入国家“长江学者奖励计划”。
The universify has currently 38 research institutes and centers and 41 laboratories.the university has about 2 700 faculty and staff members. The faculty is joined by 2 academicians from CAS and 6 academicians from CAE,555 associate professors,148 doctoral supervisor，56 middle-age experts with outstanding contributions at the national or ministry level BJTU has a total enrolment of 21042 full-time students including 13784 undergraute student,1 600 doctorate including 5508 master candidate and 150 overseas students. Besides，there are also more than 8000 part-time and correspondence students.the modernized library of the university has a collection of 1.35 million books and 3 000 kinds of periodicals both home and abroad.
学校有38个研究所和研究中心及41个实验室。北京交通大学有教职员工2 700余人，其中中国科学院院士2名，中国工程院院士6名，教授244人，副教授555人，博士生导师148人，国家级和部级突出贡献中青年专家56名，现有全日制在校生21 042人，其中本科生13 784人，博士研究生1 600人，硕士研究生5 508人，外国留学生1s0余人。此外，还有8 000余名成人教育和函授生。学校图书馆藏书13S万册，国内外期刊3 000余种。
In 1996，thousands of alumni from different places of China gathered in Beijing to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Jiaotong university.Mr. Jiang Zemin，President of the People's Republic of China and a distinguished alumnus of Jiaotong University，wrote down his very inspiring best wishes to BJTU “Carry on the efforts and build the university into a first-class one in the world.
1996年，来自世界各地数千名北京交通大学的学子们齐聚北京，共庆北京交大的百年华诞。北京交大的杰出学子、前国家主席江泽民专门为北京交通大学题写了贺词:继往开来，勇攀高峰，把交通大学建设成世界一流大学。

历史变迁
1909 The School of Railway Management，the predecessor of BJTU was founded.
1909年北京交通大学的前身铁路管理传习所成立。
1917 The School of Railway Management was restructured Management School and Beijing Posts and Telecommunications into Beijing Railway School.
1917年铁路管理传习所改组为北京铁路管理学校和北京邮电学校。
1921 The Shanghai Industrial Technical School，Tangshan Industrial Technical School Beijing Railway Management School and Beijing Posts and Telecommunication School merged into Jiaotong University with three branch schools Based in Beijing，Shanghai and Tangshan.
1921年上海工业专门学校、唐山工业专门学校、北京铁路管理学校、北京邮电学校合并组建交通大学，在北京、上海、唐山设三个分校。
1923 The name of Jiaotong University Beijing Branch School was changed Beijing Jiaotong University.
1923年北京分校更名为北京交通大学。
1929 The branch school in Beijing adopted the name of Beiping Jiaotong Management School of Jiaotong University.
1929年北京分校更名为交通大学北平交通管理学院。
1938 In times of the War of Resistance against Japan，Beiping Jiaotong Management School of Jiaotong University was moved to Xiangtan of Hunan Province and then to Pingyue(now Fuquan County) of Guizhou Province.
1938年抗日战争期间，交通大学北平交通管理学院先后迁往湖南省湘潭市和贵州省平越。
1944 It was moved to Bishan of Sichuan Province，where she combined with Tangshan Engineering College till 1945。
1944年迁往四川省，与唐山工程学院合并。
1946 The University was moved back to Beiping and her name was altered into National Beiping Railway Management College.
1946年迁回北平，更名为国立北平铁道管理学院。
1949 Beiping Railway Management College，Tangshan together to Establish China Jiaotong University. Mao Zedong，Chairman of the Central People's Government，appointed MaoYisheng，a famous specialist in bridge engineering and academician，as president of the University.
1949年国立北平铁道管理学院和唐山工程学院共组中国交通大学中央人民政府毛泽东主席仟命著名桥梁专家茅以升为校长。
1950 China Jiaotong University changed its name into Northern Jiaotong Universify.
1950年学校定名北方交通大学。
2000 Northern Jiaotong University united with Beijing Electric Engineering College and its administration was taken over by the Ministry of Education from the Ministry of Railways.
2000年与北京电力高等专科学校合并。
2003 The university resumed its name of Beijing Jiaotong University with the approval of the Ministry of Education.
2003年经教育部同意，学校恢复使用“北京交通大学”校名。
