Dream-seeker
Dai Wangshu
Flowers will bloom from dreams.
Charming, delicate flowers will bloom from dreams:
Go then to seek your invaluable jewels.
In the great blue sea,
At the bottom of the great blue sea,
Is hidden a gold-colored shell.
You climbed the iceberg for nine years.
You sailed the dry sea for nine years.
Then, you encountered this gold-colored shell.
It has the clouds and rains of the sky.
It has the winds and waves of the sea.
It will make your heart all drunken.
Fed by the sea-water for nine years,
Fed by the sky-water for nine years,
And then, in on dark night, it bloomed.
When your hair and sideburns turn frostwhite,
When your eyes blur with everything,
The gold-colored shell will spit out a peach pearl.
Hold the peach pearl in your bosom,
Put the peach pearl by your pillow,
A dream, thus, quietly arises.
Flowers are blooming from your dreams.
Charming, delicate flowers are blooming from your dreams,
When you are getting old, getting old.
