Israeli PM Netanyahu mourns death of former leader

Current Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has added his voice to the chorus of Israeli leaders mourning the death of former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. He described Sharon as a brave protector of the state of Israel and said he will be sorely missed.

"The people of Israel bow their heads for the departure of Ariel Sharon, the former prime minister. Arik was first and foremost a warrior and a brave commander. I believe he was one of the greatest military leaders we had in modern days...In all of his roles, as a minister in Israeli governments and as the Prime Minister, Arik contributed to the state's security,to its defence. He did it because he knew that the Jewish people must be able to defend their country by its own means, and for themselves. His memory will forever be cherished in the heart of the nation." said Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister.
