Lin Dan, Li Na named China′s CCTV Sports Personality of Year

The two most prestigious awards at the CCTV sports personality Gala went to Lin Dan and Li Na. Badminton world champion, Lin Dan also know as super dan won the man of the year, Li Na perhaps more famous to our international viewers for her exploits on the tennis court was woman of the year.
It was a celebration of what has been a good sporting year for the country many other athletes were recognised.Jonas Gilbart has more.
The 2013 edition of the Sports Personality awards boast one of the most star-studded line ups in the events eight year history.

Guo Chuan, the first Chinese to sail around the world solo and was nominated for the special contribution award.
Meanwhile...former US women’s volleyball coach Lang Ping was among the nominees for the coach of the year.
Guangzhou captain, Zheng Zhi leading the Super League and AFC Champions League winners to several nominations including best team for which the Chinese national table tennis team was also nominated for.
In the ceremony, the first major award, the non-Olympic athlete of the year went to Ding Junhui, who made to the top three of the world snooker rankings for the first time last season.
"I think it was a reward for the sport. I thank everybody who has supported me in snooker. I hope I can be better in the future through consistent efforts," Ding Junhui said.
Best was saved until last man and women of the year. Lin Dan edged opponents like Evergrande skipper, Zheng Zhi to win the best male athlete of the year, while Li Na took the highest honor of the women’s side.
As China’s top Chinese tennis player, Li is showing that age is nothing but a number. The 31-year-old made it into the final at last year’s Australian Open and year ending WTA Tour Championships, and with her solid performances Li has reached number 3 in the world rankings, her highest ever.
Li said, "If I can take the trophy, I hope I can carve the names of my coach on it. I think my performance in the past two years could be a boost to the sport in China, and I think my coach contributed a lot to it."
Other awards presented during the glittering Sports Personality of the Year ceremony ...Evergrande’s Marcello Lippi took the best coach award ahead of Lang Ping of China’s women’s volleyball team. Wimbledon doubles champions, Peng Shuai and her partner Chinese Taipei’s, Hsieh Su-wei claimed the best combination award. They also claimed the 2013 WTA Tour Championships, and Chinese sailor Guo Chuan won the special contribution trophy in the first year he was nominated at the Sports Oscars.
