Chinese shopping spree impresses Japan
中国对日货需求庞大
Huge Chinese demand for Japanese goods has made the phenomenon become Japan's word of the year.
Bakugai, or "explosive buying by Chinese tourists", is the joint winner of a survey by a local publishing house. This aims to reflect what Japanese society looks like in a given year. Rising income of Chinese tourists and policy favors both contributed to the upheaval. Disposable income growth has made China the largest supplier of outbound tourists in the world, and the Japanese government eased tourist VISA requirements for Chinese people in January. Official data showed Chinese tourists arriving in Japan from January to October doubled from last year. And many Chinese tourists splurged on household items, including rice cookers and toilet seats.
