Greek PM faces opposition to deal at home
希腊总理面临国内反对
Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is facing opposition at home to a bailout deal agreed with the Eurozone. The Greek public servants union has called for a 24-hour strike on Wednesday.
By that day, Tsipras needs to persuade Parliament to approve the bailout deal with Eurozone leaders and international creditors. The terms imposed by lenders for Greece to access 86 billion euros has forced Tsipras to abandon promises of ending austerity.
The Prime Minister said it will be difficult to implement the measures which include spending cuts, tax hikes and pension reforms. But he argued that the deal prevented a financial collapse and will allow his country to stay in the euro zone.
"The deal is difficult but we have prevented the transfer of public property abroad. We have prevented financial asphyxiation and the collapse of the financial system, a plan that was designed up to its last detail perfectly, and had started to be implemented. Finally, we achieved in this hard fight the restructure of the debt and secured financing for the medium term," Tsipras said.
